  3. SUBJECT: Expanded Frequency Coverage on TX/RX for the Icom IC-W32A/E

  9. 1. Remove the battery.
  10.  
  11. 2. Remove the 4 screws holding the rear cover and the 2 lower screws
  12. holding the shield in place in the battery compartment.
  13.  
  14. 3. Carefully lift the rear cover with the battery comparment shield
  15. away from the front cover.
  16.  
  17. 4. The front and rear sections are connected together with a flex
  18. strip connector. Carefully lay the rear section aside by lifting upward,
  19. turning and laying the rear section over away from the front cover
  20. leaving the flex strip connected.
  21.  
  22. 5. With the front cover section in front of you, antenna connector to
  23. your left, locate the notch at the right side of the exposed PC board.
  24. Next locate the three, 3 terminal diodes near the lower corner of the
  25. notch. Two are in line from left to right, with the third below the
  26. diode to the right.  This last diode (the one below the right one)
  27. is diode D523.  Very carefully remove D523.  Use ca

  29. 6. Reassemble the radio in reverse order.

  31. 7. Perform a system reset by holding down the Squelch button (on the
  32. side) and the Band button while turning the radio on. Note that all
  33. memories will be erased, so write down anything you want to save
  34. and reprogram.

  36. VHF coverage will be from 140 to 170 (plus or minus a bit) on Tx/RX
  37. UHF coverage will be from 430 to 470 (plus or minus a bit) on TX/RX
